During the first two years of study, students are limited in the number of courses they may take in one department or subject (prefix) each semester:
- First-year students may take no more than 1 course with the same prefix, nor more than 2 in the same department, in a semester (1 SOC and 1 ANTH is OK, but 2 SOC is not).
- Sophomores may take no more than 2 courses with the same prefix, nor more than 3 in the same department, in a semester (2 SOC and 1 ANTH is OK, but 3 SOC is not).
- Sophomores may take no more than 3 courses with the same prefix, nor more than 4 in the same department, in an academic year (3 ANTH and 1 SOC is OK, but 4 ANTH is not).
- Students may take no more than a total of 5 courses with the same prefix, nor more than 8 in one department, during the first two years.
You may request an exception to this policy by submitting the Committee on Academic Standing (CAS) Petition prior to registration.
